ENGRAVING RECORDS, SMOKE PRINTS, DOCUMENTS & ARTIFACTS. Extensive grouping including 2 unique volume collections of gunmaker pulls by Remington factory engraver Carlton Ennis. These volumes were assembled by noted auther R.L. Wilson while a consultant to Remington Arms Company in the 1970s when it was redesigning & refurbishing it's Remington Arms Museum. These volumes were compiled for the anticipated purpose of publishing a book on Remington engraving that was never written. Volume 1 is a large binder consisting of many pages of smoke prints of Ennis' work along w/ hourly engraving estimates and copies of articles. Volume 2 is a large binder containing many pages of additional smoke prints, photographs and articles. A third large binder contains many additional photographs, artwork & letters. A 4th binder from Carl Ennis' daughter Paula Burns contains additional engraving records, a gallery of engraving patterns, copies of newspaper articles & personal information about Carlton Ennis. A 1 3/8" stack of loose leaf photocopies titled "Work Book / Carl Ennis / August 21, 1967 to Dec 11, 1969". These consist of several hundred pages by date showing make, model & serial numbers of guns along w/ hours required to engrave them. There is a collection of over 30 poems written by Carlton Ennis to his wife Elaine. Many of these were written while he was in the military during World War II. A folder containing many family photographs includes a picture of Carl in uniform with his wife. Artwork in this lot includes 3 framed drawings, blueprints of Remington engraving, a carved wood block of a female figure, a carved canvas-back head along with a 3 1/4" by 3" steel plate depicting a pointing dog and demonstrating Carlton's scroll. A copy of the Remington Collector's Journal, 4th Quarter 2011 containing an article about Carl Ennis is included. Last but not least, this lot contains Carl's engraving hammer. This unique lot would be an invaluable source for anyone researching or writing a book on Remington engraving & engravers. CONDITION: all items are in good condition.
