This large metal painted sign was made and used in the famous movie "Empire Falls". This was a 2005 movie for tv (HBO), based on Richard Russo’s 2001 novel "Empire Falls". The original book won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2002. The movie won numerous awards and featured a terrific host of actors including Paul Newman, Ed Harris, Helen Hunt and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Empire Falls was a fictitious Maine community in decline. The film was shot in the town of Skowhegan, Maine (approx. 20 miles north of our auction facility). An additional photo depicts the frontice of the grill with the sign in place during the movie filming. After the movie, the sign was left in place and the grill operated for a number of years. Some time ago the sign was removed. The frontice of the sign is fitted with receptacles for small lights, the sign is a hollow two-sided sign approx. 6" deep. SIZE: 71 1/2" x 70". CONDITION: generally very good, as noted it is painted on metal with the exception of some signs of wear, the sign has nice patina now and generally looks fine. We do not know and will not guarantee that the light sockets on this sign work. A great piece of movie history with a very neat look. (05-1089/JJ). $400-4,000.
