Cal. 38 Spl. S# 356362 (1944). Per "The Book of Colt Firearms Third Edition by R.L. Wilson" The New Service model was mfg. 1898-1944 from S# range 1 - 356,000. This revolver's configuration is different than the 38 Special Models being produced at the time. Bbl. 6" w/ serrated ramp front sight. Left side of bbl. marked "NEW SERVICE 38 SPECIAL" & 1 line address on right side of bbl. While this revolver is "blued", there are 3 distinct tones: bbl. has a "black" appearance, frame has a "rust blue" appearance while the side plate has a purple tone. 6 Shot fluted swing out cyl., sighting groove on top strap & lanyard ring at butt. 2 Piece "COLT" marked hard rubber grips scratched on back "8846". Frame on left side above cyl. latch has a "W" inside crown proof. CONDITION: good to very good overall appearance w/ moderate handling marks, scratches, cyl. turn line & pinprick oxidation. Very good grips. Very good bore. (22-2013/MD). CURIO. $800-1200.
