ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 35 Newton. S# 1312 (on bottom of action). Approx. 1,000 produced in New Haven CT starting in 1924. Tapered 24" bbl. Pinned blade front sight & folding leaf rear sight. Barrel markings include: "BUFFALO NEWTON RIFLE CO NEW HAND CONN. U.S.A. / 35 NEWTON & "PATENT'S PENDING". Mauser style action w/ stripper clip guide. Patent magazine spring system & the hinged floorplate system utilized for takedown. Dog leg bolt handle. Double set triggers; front is set & will not fire until front trigger is cocked. Checkered walnut schnabel tipped stock w/ steel grip cap, recoil lug & curved steel buttplate; stock channel numbered "558". CONDITION: Balance of metal is gray patina with peppery oxidation throughout; traces of blue on floorplate & bolt. Lightly sanded & refinished wood has dents & marks throughout; 3.5" replacement piece of wood at top of wrist on right side. Good shiny bore with wear to lands. PROVENANCE: Estate of Russell Dickerman. (25-1881/MD). CURIO. $500-750.
