MATCHING WESTLEY RICHARDS MARKED BUTTSTOCK. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 13630. Standard late production Conehammer with 5.5" bbl., fixed front sight, and pinned rear sight, graduated 50-500. Long extractor, independently secured firing pin, and early safety. Top of chamber with usual 3-line address: Crown/"C"/"U" on left side of bbl. extension; antler proof on right side. A lanyard ring is present. Major components are rust-blued with the usual fire-blued small parts. The bolt, hammer, and trigger assembly in-the-white. Extensive disassembly shows an all-matching gun. The firing pin was stuck in place and could not be examined. Serrated wood grips are each fully matched to the pistol. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: accompanied by the original matching Conehammer shoulder stock, this example having been stamped with the large oval "Westley Richards & Co. LTD." on the back surface. Complete with a permit card from Canada. CONDITION: very good to excellent bright, original rust blue, approximately 80–85%, with wear in the usual places as one might expect from a pistol that has seen moderate use, i.e., under bbl., sharp edges, and thinning on front/backstrap. Comparable condition small parts with the fire blue having faded from the extractor and cursor. Grips, oil-darkened, show scattered handling marks; the left panel has a noticeable area of flattening below the grip screw. Dull bore, with oxidative etching from corrosive ammunition, shallow rifling. Original stock, dark with numerous handling marks, has a 6" crack extending down from the upper edge of the body. Hardware with thinning and scattered oxidation; no suggestion of touch-up. A very attractive Conehammer with factory matching stock, marked with the scarce Westley Richards logo. PROVENANCE: the collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (01-25354/LMA). ANTIQUE. $4,500-6,500.
