Cal. 49/61. NSN. Smooth bore 32" bbl. set has top octagon bbl. fitted w/ U-notch rear & German silver front sights marked "P. KOCKLER" "LEWISBURG" on top flat w/ other decorative stampings (Philip Kockler working in Louisburg, PA. until 1868). Backspring peninsula locks by Joseph Golcher are fitted w/ rnd. bodied hammers, left hammer w/ long extension of nose to fire bottom bbl. Locks stamped w/ sporting type engraving. Walnut buttstock is German silver mounted w/ scrolled trigger guard, crescent buttplate w/ 5" return having spear finial & brass patchbox w/ circular cover. Right hand cheekpiece has German silver inlay of running stag on face. CONDITION: good. Iron parts w/ considerable cleaning leaving silver highlights through dark brown patina. Stock w/ old finish, possibly original, shows considerable wear. German silver is nicely toned, stag missing its antlers. Rifle bore is good, strong rifling, dark in grooves. Shotgun bore is also good to very good, mostly shiny w/ some pitting. Locks & triggers are operable. PROVENANCE: Collection of Dr. John Persing. (01-19623/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
