RIFLE. Cal. 8mm Mauser. NSN. Bbl. 23 1/2". Blade front sight without a protective hood. Sheet metal-fixed rear sight. The receiver top has a German eagle, "623", "Mod. 98", and "BNZ 45" markings. Bbl. has eagle 63 Brunn marking. Bolt is of late-war Steyr mfg. and is numbered "3037T". The bolt shroud and cocking piece are both matching to the bolt body. Extractor is numbered "29". The bottom metal is marked "svw" and "byf". Phosphate and blued finishes. Laminated stock with a lighter-colored handguard that does not fit properly. Stock appears to be numbered "8349", and it has faint Heer and Eagle "37" markings. Stock has left-side sling provisions, and no cleaning rod is present. Right side of the butt also has faint carvings of tally marks and a name. The band spring and band screws are missing, causing the rear band and handguard to be loose. CONDITION: stock set shows scattered chips, dings, and handling wear. Bbl. shows several notable wrench marks, and the cocking piece has a notable crack. Metal otherwise shows overall fading with oxidation and traces of original blue and phosphate. Very good-plus, bright bore. (23-6966). CURIO. $400-600.
