Cal. 30-06. S# 247555. Bbl. 27" over flash hider. The BAR was developed by John Browning in 1917, as an air cooled, gas operated, mag. fed, shoulder fired automatic rifle as a requirement for WWI. Early manufacturers included Colt, Winchester & Marlin Rockwell. Approx. 85,000 were mfg. prior to the armistice. This particular example is manufactured by Marlin-Rockwell Corp. & is designated the Model 1918. It is a select fire, open bolt operating system. Gas operated w/ an adj. gas system. Top of receiver marked; "BROWNING AUTOMATIC RIFLE / US MODEL OF 1918 / MFD BY MARLIN-ROCKWELL CORP. / 247555 / PATENT APPLIED FOR". Barrel dated 1-19 & marked w/ 2 ordnance proofs above chamber as well as the letter "C". British proof on right side of receiver, above ejection port. Checkered, hardwood, 9.5" forend. Hardwood shoulder stock terminated w/ trap door metal butt plate. Matte black receiver finish with blued barrel & gas tube. Appears to have a threaded muzzle w/ tube flash hider. Dovetailed front sight. Ladder elevated peep rear sight graduated to 1600 yards w/ folding battle sight setting. 31" Sight radius. Brown leather sling. Left side safety selector marked “F-A-S”. Left side, non reciprocating charging handle. MAGS: 1 steel 20 rd. CONDITION: Finish on receiver is dark and complete with some normal thinning in areas of mechanical intervention. Scattered patina, mostly concentrated on right side. Barrel enjoys the majority of its blued finish. Flash hider is a brighter blue finish. Wood forend has a few period correct impressions and a small, shallow chip on left side, with no visible structural damage. Checkering still remains bold w/ a few scattered areas of thinning. Buttstock is largely unblemished aside from some tiny impressions. Bore is bright w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand.
