31.5" Unstopped fuller blade stamped "355" on ricasso, matching "355" stamped on hilt. Leech & Rigdon made two versions of the "floating CS". This pattern is found on pages 178-179 of Albaugh's 1963 "Photographic Supplement to Confederate Swords" serial numbered 290 in book and identical. The sword is now known to be Leech's highest grade infantry officer's pattern, and wartime photographs of Memphis officers are seen with this sword and the very rare rectangular 2 piece sword belt it was issued with. This is a very good unmolested example, 100% original and authentic. CONDITION: sword appears original and complete, gray blade with old cleaning, staining and pitting. Hilt & pommel smooth light mustard patina. Spiral carved wood grip retains about half its original leather, twisted wire wrap with verdigris. (02-19132/JS). $5,000-6,000.
