Cal. 30-06. S# 3633. Bbl. 27" over flash hider. The BAR was developed by John Browning in 1917 as an air cooled, gas operated, mag. fed, shoulder fired automatic rifle, as a requirement for WWI. Early manufacturers included Colt, Winchester & Marlin Rockwell. Approx. 85,000 were mfg. Prior to the armistice. This particular example is by Ohio Ordnance Works & is designated "The Self Loading Rifle Mod. 1918A3". It is a semi auto only, closed bolt self loading rifle variant of the historical BAR. From its matte parkerized finish to its hardwood forend & carry handle, the looks & feel take the operator back 100 years. Gas operated w/ an adj. gas system. Has a threaded muzzle w/ cone flash hider. Fixed blade hooded front sight. Ladder elevated rear peep sight graduated to 1500 yards w/ folding battle sight setting. 31" Sight radius. Left side safety selector & non reciprocating charging handle. Hardwood stock w/ folding steel buttplate. MAGS: 1 steel 20 rd. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 1 black plastic Doskocil transport case. CONDITION: all outward aspects indicate this firearm has been used very little, if at all. The parkerizing coverage is complete & consistent w/ only a few light lines on the bbl. indicative of vertical rack storage. Wood forend & shoulder stock are unblemished. Bore is shiny w/ strong rifling. Fire control mechanism appears to function correctly when cycled by hand. (24-761/JZ). MODERN. $4,000-6,000.
