TRAPDOOR BAYONETS WITH SCABBARDS. Lot consists of 2 Springfield Model 1873 bayonets, including: 1) blued steel U.S. M1873 Trapdoor bayonet. Bayonet flat is stamped "US". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: blued steel scabbard with brown leather frog. Rear of frog is carved with a backward "J", followed by an "M". Brass swivel is stamped "NY". CONDITION: bayonet is very good, showing some light edge wear, some handling marks, as well as spots/areas of light oxidation overall. Scabbard retains fair to good amounts of bluing, showing scattered spots of oxidation, with worn areas fading to a gray/brown patina. Frog remains malleable, showing consistent age related cracking and crazing. 2) blued steel U.S. M1873 Trapdoor bayonet. Bayonet flat is stamped "US". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: blued steel scabbard with brown leather frog and "US" embossed brass belt hanger. CONDITION: very good, with the bayonet retaining the vast majority of its arsenal blue finish, showing some light edge wear, some superficial handling marks, as well as scattered spots/areas of light surface oxidation. Scabbard retains the majority of its blue finish, showing some light wear and thinning that is fading to gray patina, with light to mild surface oxidation present overall. Frog remains malleable, exhibiting age related cracking and crazing overall. Brass belt hanger has acquired a pleasing mellow patina. (02-24178/MLW). NON-GUN. $300-500.
