This lot consists of the following: 1) French 1874 Gras Bayonet. No scabbard present. Blade has St. Etienne markings. CONDITION: blade appears lightly cleaned to bright with scattered oxidation. Crossguard is a dull gray patina with oxidation & some bright areas. Wooden handles appear sanded with some cracks, dings & chips. Brass pommel is a dull yellow color with some oxidation & dings. 2) French 1874 Gras Bayonet. No scabbard present. Blade has Chatelherault marking with 1879 date. CONDITION: blade & crossguard are partially bright with scattered oxidation staining. Brass pommel is a dull yellow with oxidation staining. Grips are missing a washer & show some dings, scratches & light cracks. 3) R35 Lebel Bayonet. Scabbard & leather frog present. CONDITION: metal shows scattered oxidation & staining. Scabbard shows scattered flaking, edge wear & oxidation. Frog shows overall crazing & flaking. 4) 1866 Chassepot Bayonet. Matching scabbard present. CONDITION: metal parts of bayonet & scabbard cleaned with areas being gray & others bright, & some scattered light oxidation.. 5) 1866 Chassepot Bayonet. 1867 dated blade. Scabbard & crossguard have two different unit markings that both appear to be German. One reads "87. L U.2165". Other is different but illegible due to oxidation. CONDITON: metal parts of bayonet & scabbard show varying degrees of oxidation, areas turning gray & some dings. Scabbard is missing its throat screw. 6) 1866 Chassepot Bayonet. Scabbard present but due to oxidation CONDITION: metal parts of bayonet & scabbard are varying degrees of oxidized patina with bayonet having old pitting throughout. 7) French 1874 Gras Bayonet. 1878 date & Chatellerault marking. Matching scabbard present. CONDITION: blade is partially bright with oxidation & age wear. Other parts are turning dull with scattered oxidation & tarnishing. Wooden handles show dings & handling marks. Scabbard shows scattered oxidation & finish loss. 8) French 1874 Gras Bayonet. 1875 dated blade with Chatellerault marking. Scabbard number indiscernible. CONDITION: metal parts of bayonet show varying degrees of oxidation & areas turning gray patina. Handles show scattered dings, dents, finish loss & staining. Scabbard has a repainted purple finish with scattered flaking. (02-25614/MJC). $400-600 for lot.
