INSIGNIA. 1) Pre-WWI French Balloon Mechanics badge measures approx. 2 1/2" x 1 3/4". This pre-1916 badge has a silver-finished wreath with gold-plated wings and star and depicts a pair of bird wings with a central toothed gear and a star above, all superimposed over an oak and laurel leaf wreath. The rear of the badge has a pin attachment and is unmarked. The badge is housed in a dark red leather case with no interior or exterior markings. CONDITION: badge shows light overall wear. (02-22994/BF). 2) WWI era French Balloon Observer's badge measures approx. 2" x 1 5/8". This 1912-1916 badge has a silver finish and depicts a toothed gear with a single bird wing to the right, superimposed over an oak and laurel leaf wreath. The rear of the badge has two loops for attachment and is unmarked. CONDITION: badge shows light to moderate wear overall with some loss of finish. (02-22995/BF). 3) Two gold bullion on black cloth French aero insignia from WWI to the 1920s. The insignia features a winged anchor with a small central star. The reverses have a cream-colored backing material. CONDITION: wings show light wear. (02-23007/BF). 4) Varied group of cloth insignia features 5 sets of aviation wings. / 1 Shoulder tab. / 2 Red flaming bomb insignia on black. / 1 Bullion flaming bomb insignia on red. / 1 Flaming bomb insignia on blue. / 1 Bullion star on red. / 2 Bullion anchors on black. / 1 Silver bullion flaming bomb on black. / 1 Red felt flaming bomb insignia. / 2 Bullion flaming bomb collar tabs. / 2 False embroidered number "5" insignia on light-blue collar tabs. / 2 Bullion insignia on black. / 4 Various sleeve rank insignia. / 1 Section of British medal ribbon.
