Helmet is of classic Model 1872 design w/ a 1 piece black felt body w/ an M1872 eagle front plate bearing the number “7” on the shield. Yellow horsehair plume w/ plume holder atop quatrefoil base. Base is held on by floral design studs similar to the side studs for supporting the aiguillette. The yellow aiguillette is likely private purchase as it does not confirm to regulations. The black leather band in the front is sewn on w/ white thread. The single buckle chinstrap is secured by 2 crossed saber side buttons. The underside of the visor & neck piece is green. Black vented sweatband. Interior top brass vent. CONDITION: helmet is relatively solid. The quatrefoil is somewhat dented w/ 2 securing stud missing. Aiguillette is well worn. Sweatband is partially detached. The leather binding at the base of the helmet shows moderate wear. PROVENANCE: Collection of John Montague. (02-16583/BF). $600-900.
