The Model of 1918 tripod for the Browning Model of 1917 water cooled machine gun is a very rare accessory to find in the United States. The cradle is a bronze casting and is the intermediate member between the gun and the tripod mechanism. The cradle plays host to a steel bracket to add a Model 1918 wooden belt box, which holds 250 rounds of belted ammunition. This unique tripod has 3 legs & five leg adjustment clamps. The mount allows adjustment in traverse & elevation in both precise, 1 mil adjustments, or adjusted by hand for large adjustments. The rear leg has a 3" long, oval shaped, brass data plate that reads; "MACHINE GUN TRIPOD / MODEL OF 1918 / 8799488 / MANF'D. BY / THE STANDARD EQUIPMENT CO. / CLEVELAND, OHIO U.S.A.". A leather strap attached to the rear leg provides means for strapping the legs together when folded for packing or transportation. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Correct hardwood 1918 ammo box, to hold 250 rd belt. CONDITION: Tripod finished in uniform coverage of olive drab green paint. Brass cradle has naturally aged finish, as well as brass data plate. Leather straps on both tripod & ammo box remain flexible, not dried or cracked. Everything appears to function as intended.
