This interesting telescopic sight, developed in the early 1940s, was utilized in conjunction w/ the M4 (Sherman) tank. Fielded by the U.S. Armory & Marine Corp. as well as British & Canadian forces in Africa, Western Europe & throughout the Pacific Theater. The M4 was designed w/ speed more of a primary factor than firepower unlike earlier tanks. Its primary function was to act in a role of infantry support & therefore needed to keep up w/ the rapid pace of ground troops. This interesting sight measures 22.5" w/ a reticle pattern conducive for long range & leading fire. Sight is marked “TELESCOPE M70 F” “NO. 45130 H.M.R.” “W.E.M. CO. 1943” “C132086”. 1 Interesting feature is the inclusion of 2 glass portholes which provide an illuminated reticle w/ the addition of an outside light source. Painted o. d. green w/ illegible white stenciling. CONDITION: sight body appears free from any structural damage. Paint coverage is complete w/ thinning due to mechanical intervention on high areas & at rear where it is usually inserted into a special goggle set. Glass is clear & reticle is crisp.
