LAJOT WITH SUPERB RELIEF ENGRAVED FENCES. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-3/4". S# 12050 (1926). Barrels 29-5/8" well struck, dovetailed, with slightly raised matted rib are marked "Fabrication Speciale Pour Tir Aux Pigeons" "N. Lajot & Cie a Liege" on side of left barrel. Barrel flats stamped with 1926 Belgian Nitro proofs for 2-3/4" chambers. Robust blued sidelock action features non-automatic safety, hidden third fastener, bushed strikers, side clips & double triggers (front articulated). Action and lockplates have only line and small scroll border engraving with some small geometric work around hingepin. Bottom of action is engraved "Armeria" "Attilio Cimini" "Ferrara". Fences have very high quality deep relief carving of leaves, blossoms and some ribbons. A gold sovereign's crown is inlaid on top lever. Thumbpiece is also relief engraved with blossom and leaf. Newer straight grip buttstock of lightly streaked European walnut measures 14-1/4" over serrated wood butt. Point pattern checkering is at grip. Matching broad splinter forend with original wood and checkering has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .729. L .729. Restriction: R .045 (EXTRA FULL). L .044 (EXTRA FULL). Min. Wall Thickness: R .026. L .032. STOCK: DAH: 1-11/16". DAC: 1-1/4". LOP: 14-1/4". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 7 lb. 15 oz. CONDITION: good as partially refurbished. Barrels and action retaining most of their original blue with silver highlights from normal hand wear, newer buttstock retains most of its poor quality oil finish. Forend is original, nearly devoid of finish, checkering considerably worn and has worn through on left side. Bores are bright and shiny; no noted problems. Action is tight. Barrels are on face. Ejectors are in time. Crack in buttstock running from top center left lockplate up toward hand pin; crack does not flex. An incredibly well made gun. (25-2478/MGM). CURIO. $2,250-3,500.
