Overall length: 21". Blade length: 15 1/2". A fine & scarce original Main Gauche dagger from the 17th or early 18th century. Blade has a deep central fuller w/ piercings in the valley of the fuller. A stamped inscription in the fuller is present but not fully legible. Iron crossguard, guard ring & pommel all have reeded decoration. Gorgeous brass wire wrapped grip w/ silver studs every 1/4" around the wire. Turks heads knots above & below the grip. We feel that the grip is not original to the mfg. of the dagger but was probably replaced in the late 1700s to the early 1800s. The dagger has an overall exquisite look & would be a welcome addition to any advanced collection. CONDITION: blade has a medium gray cleaned finish w/ areas of light pitting. Hilt has a dark patina on the iron. Brass wrap has a mellow patina. A true work of art. (02-16673-23/BF). $2,000-3,000.
