INSCRIBED BOLT ACTION RIFLE.
Cal. 257 Roberts. S# 7241. Bbl. 24" matching numbered with banded ramp front sight having dovetailed German silver bead plus 2 leaf express sight at rear. Mfg. 1952 with finely checkered walnut 1/2 stock having white inlays and engraved bottom metal to include silver Roe buck head on trigger guard along with engraving on tang and floorplate also inscribed with "COL. ARMSTRONG", "NCO CLUB", "1953" and "FURSTENFELDBRUCK". Near end of forend is barrel band for stock security plus corresponding black forend tip; matching grip cap and serrated buttplate. Each side of stock at action has inlays of oak leaf branches plus ram's head on right and moose on left; right side of buttstock has full buck standing on forest floor. Left side of action indicates Steyr manufacture as does logo on floorplate. Quality high gloss blued finish, straight butterknife bolt handle (grooved on underside), right side sliding safety plus redundant safety on rear of bolt. Action interior nicely stoned to in the white finish along with some nicely strawed parts. Fitted with double set triggers. Stock has European style 1" swivels, indexed screws, raised RH cheekpiece, plus wrap around checkering on forend; standard 2 panels at grip area with long points at forward ends. Consignor states special features described were performed by the factory. Furstenfeldbruck was air field used by the Germans before and during World War II in Bavaria, Germany; post war, it was used by the US until 1957 when it was given back to Germany. Internet search of Col. Armstrong was fruitless as no time frame or first name was available. CONDITION: very good to excellent appearance having light handling marks around the stock between the floorplate and forend checkering. Some other light handling marks are on the bottom of the stock forward of forend checkering and on toe line (mostly between grip cap and swivel) of the buttstock. Metal finish and bore are near excellent. Very nice rifle in great, noncatalogued caliber. (23-447/NW). CURIO. $7,000-9,000.
