FLAYDERMAN COLLECTION. Cal. 470 Nitro. S# 65723. Built in what is presently a favorite African big game cartridge; this good handling rifle has 24" chopper lump barrels fitted with quarter rib holding one standing two folding leaf express rear sights. A front ramp holds silver bead. Tops of barrels are engraved "Manton & Co" "London & Calcutta" they are stamped "FOR CORDITE" ".470 3-1/4" CASE". Barrel flats are stamped with Birmingham nitro proofs for cordite 75 grains and 500 grain bullet. Case hardened heavy boxlock action features automatic safety ("SAFE" in silver), cross bolt third fastener, bushed strikers and double triggers. Action is engraved with 70% coverage shaded scroll. "MANTON & Co" is in banner on each side. Blued top lever, floorplate and trigger guard are engraved with matching scroll. S# is on trigger guard tang which extends to heavy rounded steel grip cap. Wood of buttstock is very dark with hardly any grain visible and measures 14-3/4" over a Silver type pad. Stock features point pattern grip checkering, sling eye and a silver oval on toeline engraved "SUE". Matching splinter forend has Anson release. Rifle is fitted with an old leather sling. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: WEIGHT: 11 lb. 10 oz. CONDITION: fine as partially refinished. Barrels retaining nearly all good quality re-black. Action retains most of its original case hardening color. Top lever, floorplate and trigger guard have been re-blued and retain nearly all of that blue. Trigger guard shows some pitting on bow. Stock is dark possibly oil soaked. Checkering re-cut with loss of many diamonds in both grip and forend. Bores are very fine with sharp strong rifling throughout and very little evidence of throat erosion.
