Cal. 45 Gov't (45-70). S# 24371. Bbl. is matching numbered heavy 30" (offered 32" as well) octagon with brass blade sight in dovetailed base plus standard elevator adjustable buckhorn rear. Mfg. 1889 (1876-1891) with Marlin Fire Arms Co. marked case colored receiver, lever, hammer and breech block. Simple forend with slight flare at tip; clear straight grained buttstock. Very unusual model with cleaning rod below barrel in muzzle loader style plus cross screw through lower portion of barrel to retain forend. Additional distinctive features are the end loop on the lever and its double set triggers (fully operational). CONDITION: good overall appearance having brown patina tone throughout. High edge barrel wear and occasional spots of peppery oxidation. Faded case colors barely visible with receiver having mottled appearance. Buttplate and lever have a blued appearance yet the lever has traces of case colors in protected area. Numerous very light marks on original appearing metal finish. Faint marks on older refinished stock set with 2 faint cracks at top juncture to receiver. Fair to good case colors on breech block. Factory drilled and tapped tang sight holes have plug screws. Fair bore with wear and even cleaned pitting along with some defined spots. PROVENANCE STATEMENT: Estate collection of Thomas F. Wolfinger. (01-22180/NW). ANTIQUE. $1,000-1,500.
