Cal. 32-W (32-20). S# 85409. Bbl. 24" round with brass blade in dovetailed base and unknown vintage replacement elevator adjustable rear. Mfg. 1893 (1889-1899; S# 25000 to 100000) as side eject model predecessor to Model 1894. Caliber marking with just "W" as Marlin didn't want to credit Winchester by putting "32 W.C.F.". Of approx. 55,000 made in barrel lengths of 24" (39,300) and 28" (2,260), most were octagon; uncommon as round. Straight griped stock set with capped rifle forend and crescent buttplate. Unmarked tang factory drilled and tapped for sight; plug screw in front hole and filed flush unslotted screw at rear. CONDITION: good general appearance of brown patina. Tang filed without markings; top of sight blade also filed. Barely a hint of case colors remaining with mottled appearance; especially on buttplate. Handling marks throughout stock set having extra applied finish; no dimensional issues. Smooth action, damaged screw slots and 'hair' trigger. Fair, worn and pitted bore. PROVENANCE STATEMENT: Estate collection of Thomas F. Wolfinger. (01-22165/NW). ANTIQUE. $500-750.
