PISTOL. Cal. 65. NSN. Military flintlock style pistol with 9" tapered round barrel is engraved "LONDON" on top and has London black powder proofs at left rear. Lock with slightly arched beveled and pointed plate is fitted with serpentine cock, integral rounded pan, bridled friction frizzen and feather spring with dog nose finial. Lock is line border engraved; "H-NOCK" is at center. Stock with chamfered bag grip extends to muzzle and is pinned to barrel. What appears to be an inspectors mark "JS" (?) is on left side opposite lock. Trigger guard and sideplate are brass. Trigger guard with simple finial has rack # "263" engraved on bow. Hickory ramrod with brass tip is held by single beaded brass pipe and hole acting as thimble. CONDITION: very good. Iron parts show light cleaning and are mostly gray brown patina with some scattered minor pits. Brass is nicely toned. Stock retains most of what appears to be its original finish with many minor marks. Dark bore is lightly rusted. Lock is good. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox.
