ORIGINAL LEATHER SCABBARD. Heavy 33" blade, 1.5" wide w/ half rnd. unstopped fuller, heavy thick brass hilt, carved wood grip w/ leather & single thin iron wire wrap. The heavy gauge leather scabbard is mounted w/ heavy brass pinned sword rings. There are at least 2 very heavy cavalry sabers w/ similar heavy gauge leather scabbards w/ heavy brass mounts, heavy hilts w/ similar carved grips, possibly all by same maker; cavalries are thought to be products of Louis Froelich when in early partnership in Wilmington, NC before making his well known sabers in Kenansville. CONDITION: very good overall, blade is gray/white still showing manufacturer's tool marks, staining & pitting. Hilt is tight, grip has chipping to leather mostly patinaed over, brass hilt, pommel, scabbard mts. have matching dark mottled patinas. Scabbard body is sound, well fit, unsewn about half of its length, missing the once pinned throat & drag. (02-17382/JS). $6,000-7,000.
