SPORTING RIFLE. Cal. 458 Win Mag. S# 3701. Bbl. 20 5/8". Originally mfg. as a standard configuration K98k by Mauser in 1937 under contract for Portugal, this example was later sporterized and fitted with a new bbl. chambered in .458 Winchester Magnum. The receiver faintly shows the Portuguese coat of arms above "1937", with the S# and Mauser's mfg. information marked on the left. Left side of bbl. is hand stamped "458 WIN. MAG.". Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish, with the bolt handle and extractor being polished in-the-white. Replacement plain wood pistol grip buttstock with horn grip cap and Pachmayr black rubber recoil pad. Ramped and hooded white plastic beaded blade front sight, with solid rib 3-leaf rear sight graduation from 100-300 yards. Bolt safety lever is a Buehler replacement. CONDITION: very good overall, with metal components retaining the vast majority of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting some light wear on the bolt assembly from cycling of the action, some scattered light superficial handling marks, as well as some areas of light to mild pitting beneath the finish. Brilliant mirror bore, retaining sharp and well defined rifling throughout. Action functions appropriately when cycled by hand. Stock shows a few light superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise is very good overall. (24-756/MLW). MODERN. $800-1,200.
