Cal. 7.63mm. S# 174964. Bbl. 5 1/2". C96 Broomhandle semi-automatic pistol mfg. by Mauser. Top flat of the faceted breech is marked with Mauser's 3-line address, with the S# on the left quarter flat, and a double crowned "U" proof (repeated on top of bolt) on the left. Right quarter flat exhibits an encircled "II" proof, with the left side of the frame exhibiting a "-" within a star, both markings being unidentified. Underside of the bbl. is marked with a mostly illegible import mark. Unusually, the top of the bbl. extension is marked "1478" on the left side, bordering the rear sight. Metal components exhibit a dark and dull reapplied blue finish overall, save for on the bolt, which is polished in-the-white. Frame is mounted with 2-piece "MW" monogram checkered brown hard rubber grips. Fixed blade front sight with tangent V-notch rear sight graduated 50-1000. Matching numbers are present on the frame, sub-frame, locking block, and bbl. extension, with remaining parts being mis-matched. Bolt has been numbered "964" at a later time to match. CONDITION: metal components retain large amounts of their reapplied blue finish, showing areas of wear and thinning that show through to silvering, with varying degrees of pitting present beneath the finish overall. Bore exhibits consistent moderate pitting, while retaining fair to good rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Grips show heavy smoothing and scattered handling marks, with a small chip present on the left panel. (25-2655/MLW). CURIO. $1,000-1,500.
