Cal. 7.63mm. S# 344. This is a fantastic super early production C96, one of the 1st to have been made w/ the Waffenfabrik Mauser legend over the chamber. It is identical to the example pictured in the "SYSTEM MAUSER" book on pages 34 & 35, that example also supplied by David Witkowski; additional S#s noted: 393, 397. The pistol has a 4.75" bbl. with a fixed front & rear sight, long extractor, independently secured firing pin, and early safety. Frame w/ narrow backstrap, never slotted for shoulder stock. The top of the chamber w/ the 3 line Mauser address. Left side of bbl. extension w/ Crown /"C" /"U" marking. Inspector marking under bbl. Disassembly shows all matching parts, including firing pin, locking block, subframe, various internals & each of the uniquely hollowed grips, the top having an oval recess, the bottom a circular recess. Original lanyard ring present. CONDITION: approx. 96-97% bright original rust blue w/ sharp edge wear in expected locations; faded finish over backstrap. Fire blued parts faded & spotted to approx. 50% w/ no suggestion of enhancement. Grips retaining the most varnish w/ oil staining & scattered handling marks. Bright bore w/ mild oxidative etching & easily discernable rifling. Perfect manual mechanics. A great early production Mauser C96 6 shot, one of the 1st pistols to have been marked w/ the 3 line Mauser legend over chamber & one of the few to have never been slotted for a shoulder stock. A great Mauser by any metric! (01-22329/LMA). ANTIQUE. $10,000-15,000.
