VL&D MARKED SEMI-AUTOMATIC PISTOL. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 30447. Standard, early production Large Ring Shallow Milled C96 with 5.5” barrel having a fixed, beaded front sight and slip-in 50-1,000 rear sight. Long extractor and a single-lug firing pin. The usual address is on top of the chamber, with the serial number on the left chamber flat. Crown/U mark on the left side of the barrel extension; antler proof on the right side. Left side of the frame is marked "VON LENGERKE/ & DETMOLD/ NEW-YORK". There is no Mauser address on the right frame. Small parts are fire-blued, except for the strawed trigger. Extensive disassembly shows all matching serial numbers, including the rear sight assembly, bolt stop, bolt, firing pin, hammer, subframe, locking lever, frame, follower, floorplate, small subframe components, and locking block. Even the wood-serrated grips are correctly stamped with the full serial number (along with a penciled "NIX") on each panel. A reproduction lanyard ring is present. CONDITION: very good original rust blue, approximately 75-80% coverage, with spotting and fading in the usual locations, as one might expect from a pistol that has seen moderate use. Comparable-condition fire-blued parts show no suggestion of enhancement. Grips are dark with oil staining and a few light scattered handling marks. Sprung lanyard ring. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. This is an excellent opportunity to own a highly attractive early configuration and all matching Large Ring C96. PROVENANCE: the collection of Curtis H. Halvorson. (23-5820/LMA). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
