STOCK. Cal. 7.63mm. S# 33633. Mauser made relatively few Shallow Milled lg. ring hammer pistols, generally found in the 31xxx-33xxx S# range, this example falling in the latter part of that series. It has a 5.5" bbl. w/ fixed front sight & slip-in rear sight graduated 50-1000. Long extractor, single lug firing pin & early safety. Usual Mauser address on chamber. Full S# on left chamber flat. Left side of bbl. extension marked Crown/"C"/"U"; antler proof on right side. The center panel on the left side of the frame is VL&D import marked. The Mauser 2-line address is on the right side of the frame. Fitted w/ hard rubber grips, each panel molded w/intertwined "M/W" in the upper portion surrounded by a checkered field. Lanyard ring absent. Disassembly shows full S# or last few digits on all the usual parts including firing pin & locking block. Grips are unnumbered, though the right panel is inscribed w/ date "3/13/11". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: accompanied by a closely numbered shoulder stock numbered "33684". Lid correctly notched for lg. ring hammer and internally inked "E. Darling" CONDITION: approx 95-97% bright original rust blue w/ sharp edge wear in the usual locations, particularly in front of mag. well & discoloration of the front strap. Fire blued parts w/ commensurate fading, especially the extractor that now appears as an in-the-white part. Back of the bolt & entire hammer have been lightly polished. Grips w/ moderate blunting & handling marks, especially the lower portion of the right panel where the checkering has smoothed to be indiscernible. Mirror bright bore. Perfect manual mechanics. Near excellent shoulder stock w/ only minor handling marks. Hinge and lug w/ some fading but no suggestion of enhancement. A desirable C96 made in a narrow S# range, this example w/ hard rubber grips & a closely numbered, near excellent, stock. (22-3097/LMA). CURIO. $4,000-6,000.
