Cal. 9.3x62mm. S# 114580. Bbl. 24". Model 98 Type B Pattern No. 120 bolt action sporting rifle mfg. by Mauser. The top of the half octagonal bbl. is marked MAUSER-WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF AM NECKAR." over the top of the rib, with 9,3x62 above the S# marked on the left towards the breech, and "9,059,3 360" marked on the underside. Receiver features a checkered panel with the Mauser banner logo at the center over the top of the chamber, with a checkered square panel over the top of the rear receiver bridge. Left side of the receiver exhibits Crown over "B", "U", "G", and "N" commercial proofs, followed by the S#, with Mauser's mfg. information marked on the receiver wall. Metal components exhibit a reapplied blue finish overall, with the bolt stop cover exhibiting a reheated straw finish. Double set triggers and recoil lug exhibit a nitre blue finish, with the follower being polished in-the-white. Checkered wood pistol grip stock has been lightly sanded and re-varnished, featuring a cheek rest, Mauser banner logo buttplate, as well as a brown hard rubber grip cap. Underside of buttstock exhibits an unengraved oval German silver escutcheon, with a brass R. Fischer retailer disc inlaid just behind the bottom of the pistol grip. Bbl. features a solid rib, with a ramped blade front sight, and a dovetailed 3-leaf rear sight, graduated 200, 100 (fixed), and 300. Sling loops are present on the underside of the bbl. and underside of the buttstock. Nearly all serialized parts are matching and include the receiver, bbl., folding rear sight leafs, bolt body, bolt shroud, cocking piece, trigger guard, floorplate, buttstock, as well as on the recoil lug. Receiver trigger assembly is numbered "64", with the trigger trip lever appearing to have been cut and rewelded at one time. CONDITION: excellent, as restored, with metal components retain bountiful amounts of their reapplied blue finish, exhibiting a few spots of light edge wear, light to mild wear present on the bolt body and knob from cycling of the action, as well as some scattered spots of light to mild pitting beneath the bluing overall. Strawed and nitre blue parts are excellent overall. Bore is bright, as refinished, exhibiting consistent moderate pitting in the grooves and what appears to be some hardened grease on the lands, while retaining strong rifling throughout. Stock is very good, exhibiting some light superficial marks from handling and storage, with a small repaired break present on the right side, below the rear receiver bridge. (25-508/MLW). CURIO. $2,500-3,500.
