Cal. 22 LR. S# 167615. Possibly one of a few off hand rifles produced by Mauser for the 1936 Olympic shooting team. This rifle uses standard ES 350B barrel and action with clamp on wind gauge tangent curve rear sight. Late style 350 action is grooved for accessories. Mauser logo is on receiver ring and left side of action is marked "MAUSER WERKE A.G. OBERNDORF a.N.". Thumb-hole Scheutzen type off hand stock with large saddle cheekpiece, heavy blued steel helm buttplate and heavy forearm appears to be factory made. Checkering style, inletting and action bedding along with exterior finish are clues to a factory custom offering. The only numbers present are S# on action without any number stamped or penciled in barrel channel or on metal parts. Pistol grip is nicely checkered as is forend and checkering pattern ends with carved volutes toward butt. A matching swirl terminates nicely carved comb of the high right hand cheekpiece. Barrel is bedded tight and has secondary attachment screw at front of forearm. Bolt appears to have been speed-locked and wing safety will not engage cocking piece (Double pull trigger has very crisp let-off.). CONDITION: very fine. Metal retaining over 90% original blue with some sharp edge wear and some scratches. Stock retains nearly all of its original oil finish with a generous scattering of nicks, dings and light scratches. Front sling swivel is missing. Bore is bright, sharp and shiny throughout. Action is smooth. (25-749/MGM). CURIO. $1,500-2,000.
