Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# B62001. Bbl. 24". Blade front sight. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. German Standard Modell Mauser that appears to have been arsenal refurbished. It is likely one of the rifles exported to Spain during their Civil War, but there are no discernible Spanish markings. Bolt is the correct Standard Modell type, but it is mismatched. Rear sight is also mismatched. Other visible numbers are matching. Receiver top has a Mauser banner. Left side of receiver has "BUGN" commercial proofs. Arsenal type rework blue finish. Walnut stock set with bottom-mounted sling swivels. No cleaning rod is present. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: muzzle cover is numbered "1913" and S84/98 bayonet with mismatched scabbard. Bayonet and scabbard show scattered gray patina, oxidation, and some pitting. CONDITION: stock has an arsenal rework appearance with a few putty repairs, scattered handling marks, and light dings. Metal retains 85% arsenal rework type blue with some dings on bottom metal, scattered oxidation, blued-over pitting, and some fading. Action is functional when hand-cycled. Very good, bright bore with strong rifling. PROVENANCE: the estate collection of Charles Wagner. (24-4634/MJC). CURIO. $800-1,200.
