SHOT RIFLE. Cal. 38 Maynard CF (Thick Head Maynard Shell). S# 27338. Bbl. 26" rnd. with octagon shank. Globe front sight, 2-leaf rear sight, with mid-range Vernier tang sight. Breech has wide gap between the bbl. and the recoil shield for the thick shell rim. Left side of receiver has standard Edward Maynard patent markings, last date is "DEC 6, 1859" followed by model marking "1873". Blued finish bbl. with case colored action. Stock of nicely figured walnut with curved steel buttplate. CONDITION: bbl. has dull fading blue showing spotted corrosion. Action has largely faded to gray with some lightly visible case colors on its sides. Stock has moderately worn finish showing scratches and marks with a small crack extending from the left side of the buttplate. Sound action. Dark bore with scattered spots of mild to moderate pitting, showing worn rifling. PROVENANCE: Estate Collection of Nicholas Apergis. (01-27575/DS). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,250.
