RIFLE. Cal. ???. NSN. 61 3/4" Overall. Bbl. 45" oct. w/ silver front blade sight, fixed iron rear sight signed in script “A McGILVRAY”. Alexander McGilvray worked in Harrisburg, Virginia 1820-1825. This is an attractive example, brass mounted, w/ silver hunting star in cheekpiece & void silver oval thumbplate, 8 keyway escutcheons are also silver, 4 piece pierced & engraved patch box. There is a clever well executed 5" x 2 1/2" sheet copper & screw repair to stock forward of trigger guard that is heavily patinaed today. CONDITION: very good overall, appears to be original flint, though cock & frizzen spring are replaced. Lock & bbl. have dark iron patina, brass has medium mustard patina, copper sheeting repair has olive/chocolate colored patina. Stock has hand worn patina retaining some of its original dark finish in protected areas. PROVENANCE: Eagle Museum, Strasburg Pennsylvania. From the Collection of John "Tim" Breth Jr. (01-17782/JS).
