RIFLE. Cal. 22 S, L, LR. S# 24931. The action of this high grade rifle is adorned w/ more elaborated full coverage engraving than it normally encountered. Right side vignette features a ruffed grouse. Left side vignette features a pheasant. Balance of sides & tops of action are covered w/ fine vine type foliate scroll w/ punch dot backgrounds & dbl. line borders. Takedown screw head is engraved in a floral pattern. The hammerless action features a case colored breech block, jeweled slide bar, hand checkered trigger, right side slide release & top tang safety. Bbl. 24" oct. Gold ring front sight. Spirit level rear bbl. sight & combination tang sight. Tubular mag. Sm. tapered pump handle & straight grip stock of fancy walnut w/ burl grain. Features include point pattern hand checkering & crescent steel buttplate. The Meriden Fire Arms Co. produced firearms in Meriden, CT. from 1905-1918. The company was formed when Sears, Roebuck & Co. purchased the Andrew Fryeburg & Son Firearms Mfg. plant & moved the machinery to Meriden. The company's firearms were sold through the Sears catalogue as well as other retailers. The Meriden Model 15 slide action rifle was introduced in the fall of 1912 & is based on Savage patents. This design was later mfg. by Savage & known as the Model 29. CONDITION: bbl. & action retain over 90% lightly worn blue showing edge wear. Bolt retains vivid green toned case colors. Original wood finish shows moderate wear w/ scratches & handling marks. Sound mechanics. Bore has slightly darkened appearance retaining sound rifling. (24-940/DS). CURIO. $8,000-12,000.
