DERRINGER PISTOL. Cal. 41 RF. S# 1172. Bbl. 2 1/2". Southerner single-shot derringer pistol mfg. in Newburyport, MA by Merrimack Arms & Mfg. Co. Left flat of the faceted bbl. is marked with Merrimack Arms' mfg. information, with "SOUTHERNER" marked across the top flat. Brass frame is fitted with 2-piece smooth wood grips. German silver blade front sight. All numbers are matching and include the frame, bbl., extractor, as well as the grips (on the interior of the panels). CONDITION: brass frame exhibits a pleasing mellow brown patina, with some small scattered spots of age-related discoloration overall. Steel components retain scant traces of their original factory blue finish, with the balance exhibiting a gray patina and with light to mild surface pitting present overall. Bore is bright, exhibiting scattered areas of dark pitting while retaining well-defined rifling throughout. Grips show some scattered handling marks but otherwise remain sturdy and serviceable. Left grip panel exhibits some staining towards the butt, but is otherwise fine. PROVENANCE: from the collection of a Tennessee gentleman. (01-25687/MLW). ANTIQUE. $700-900.
