REVOLVER WITH HOLSTER. Cal. 44-40. S# 5944. Bbl. 4". Medium frame single action revolver mfg. by Merwin & Hulbert. Metal components exhibit a reapplied nickel plated finish, with all external markings, save for the S# on the butt, having been obliterated. Frame is mounted with a mottled orange hard rubber on the left, and a hand checkered wood grip on the right. Loading gate screw is absent. Bbl. has been shortened. Blade front sight with frame notched rear sight. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: brown leather holster that is fitted with a stamped silver plate, embellished with foliate patterns surrounding a side portrait of a horse head. CONDITION: metal components retain good amounts of their reapplied nickel plated finish, exhibiting wear and flaking overall that shows through to gray patina. Dark pitted bore, retaining poor rifling throughout. Action functions when cycled by hand, with the cyl. occasionally not rotating completely to the next chamber. Hard rubber grip exhibits a sizeable loss at the bottom right corner of the panel, with the wood grip exhibiting heavy smoothing and some impressions from handling and storage. Holster remains malleable, with the silver plate showing some creasing and warping along the edges. (01-25524/MLW). ANTIQUE. $400-600.
