PROVENANCE. Late 19th/early 20th century era Middle Eastern dagger that measures 17" overall w/ a 12 1/4" curved blade. Bone handles. Panther shaped pommel. Blade has damascus pattern w/ one area of gold inlay & Islamic symbols. Crossguard & scabbard have floral & leaf engraving. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: scabbard, US Navy SEAL baseball cap autographed by the well known SEAL Richard Peters of Team 6 & a letter from Mr. Peters to Glen Mattox. The letter is dated 11/18/14 & states that this dagger was a gift in return for help. Richard Peters was one of the founding members of SEAL Team 6. He was also in Vietnam, Grenada & Panama. Peters later founded a construction contracting business that did work in many war torn countries including Afghanistan, Iraq & Libya. In Libya Mr. Peters was imprisoned during that country's revolution & accused of being a spy by the Gadhafi's government. The prison Peters was detained in was eventually liberated by rebel forces & he was able to return to the US. CONDITION: the bone handles show some light chipping, dirt staining & handling wear. Scabbard, crossguard & pommel show some flaking & scattered oxidation w/ heavier oxidation inside crossguard. Blade is a gray patina w/ scattered oxidation.
