E. LEE. Frame measures approx. 5 7/8" x 5 1/8". Sight size is 3 3/4" x 3". The miniature portrait depicts Confederate General Robert E. Lee standing in his dress uniform with sash and belt. His hat is in his right hand and his left hand is on his sword. Painting is exceptionally well detailed and was done by a skilled artist. The painting is actually signed, "Smith" below Lee's left elbow and is easily visible with magnification. The frame is certifiably antique ivory with a checkered and vine motif around the outside. The reverse is old black velvet with an old paper stamp that reads, "frame No.25 Robert E. Lee after Smith". CONDITION: ivory frame shows various scattered drying cracks but no significant damage. Painting shows vibrant colors and great detail. (02-17722/BF). $1,500-2,500.
