INFANTRYMAN, BATTLE OF MISSIONARY RIDGE. From direct family descent is Union cap box with large "T" carved on face. An old typed label is glued: "DORSEY TAYLOR, 10TH REG, IOWA VOLUNTEERS WOUNDED, MISSION RIDGE". Mini ball in his pouch taken from his wound. Dorsey Taylor born in Oxford, WI (1837-1918) entered service as private with Company "F" 10th Iowa Infantry, August 1861, gunshot wound to shoulder November 25, 1863, he continued in service till mustered out September 28, 1864 at Kingston, GA. He died at Iowa Soldier's Home and is buried there. Identified bullets saved from wounding during war are rare and this one looks like it really hurt. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: small file of research. CONDITION: very good overall, cap box is complete with good closure tab. The 54 or 58 caliber minié ball is highly distorted from impact in his shoulder. Minié is wrapped in piece of red checkered cloth inside the cap box. (02-23460/JS). NON-GUN. $1,000-2,000.
