Cal. 8x57 (8mm Mauser). S# 2510c. Bbl. 23 1/2" with Mitchell's Mauser import marking. Blade front sight. Tangent rear sight graduated to 2000m. Mitchell's Mausers imported and reworked the K98k rifle. Original matching numbers on receiver, bbl., and front sight. Matching Russian applied number on left side of buttstock. Bolt parts, floorplate, and trigger guard renumbered to match, likely by the importer; other parts are unnumbered or mismatched. Receiver top has "S/42 1936" markings denoting mfg. by Mauser Oberndorf in 1936. Brightly finished bolt assembly, buttplate, and takedown disc; other metal parts have dull Soviet arsenal reworked blue. Walnut stock set with left side sling provisions. Right side of butt has faint Weimar "63" eagles. Cleaning rod is present. WWII German eagle. Cleaning rod present. CONDITION: refinished stock set shows some handling marks and black staining. Brightly finished parts show a couple patches of cleaned pitting and some oxidation but remain mostly bright. Balance of metal retains 95% arsenal rework blue with some edge wear and blued-over dings. Action functions properly when hand-cycled. Good bore with scattered frosting and light pitting but strong rifling. (24-4744/MJC). CURIO. $500-800.
