Cal. 69. NSN. 44 1/2" Bbl. Oval “Eagle CT” proof at rear. Slightly beveled flat plate lock w/ teat at rear is marked “EVANS” vertically & w/ eagle & U.S. (?) in front of reinforced cock. Frizzen spring has bulbous finial w/ teat. American walnut stock of Harper’s Ferry pattern w/ dished comb is held by 3 bands retained by long springs. Inspector’s mark “MTW” between 2 “V”s is on left side behind sideplate. Bottom of stock behind trigger guard tang is stamped “KCE”(?). Musket is complete w/ sling loops, ramrod, & what appears to be its original bayonet. 16" Triangular blade has star proof at rear. Evans had a contract for 1,000 muskets. No record exists of deliveries. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: 16" bayonet. CONDITION: good. Metal parts w/ considerable cleaning over remaining overall light pitting. There are some scratches on left side of stock & a long sliver of wood separation left side of bbl. channel behind front band. Stock furniture remains mostly brown. Eagle U.S. mark is nearly obliterated at center of lock. Stock retains most of what appears to be its original finish w/ fine hand worn patina at normal points of wear. Mechanically good. Bayonet condition commensurate w/ musket. (01-18706/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,000.
