Cal. 54 S# NSN. This early production pistol is in standard configuration with 8 1/2" barrel stamped "U.S." "JA" "P" at rear and is fitted with bridled steel ramrod. Oval rear sight is on barrel tang. Flintlock with flat beveled lockplate has round tail and is fitted with reinforced cock, inset brass pan, bridled frizzen and feather spring with bulbous finial. Center is stamped with eagle head and "A. WATERS" "MILBURY. MS." "1837". Walnut stock is iron mounted. Sideplate is integral with barrel band. Grip cap has long back strap extending to barrel tang. Inspectors marks are on left side opposite lock. CONDITION: good, original flint. Metal parts show cleaning to silver gray, markings remain clear. Stock refinished and shows many sanding marks. Inspectors marks are good. Bore is lightly pitted. Mechanically fine. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox. (01-22405/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,800.
