BROADWELL DRUMS, MANUFACTURED BY VALLEY ENGRAVING INC. Cal.45-70. S# 014-008. Bbl. 18". Manufactured June, 2009. A full scale, functional modern reproduction of the 1878 Battery Gun. These guns boasted a large round brass receiver with an exposed 10 barrel cluster. Beefy 1.25" trunnions support this functional art piece on its 360º hardwood tripod. This particular example utilizes the equally attractive, 216 round, gravity fed, Broadwell Drums for feeding the massive 45-70 Government rounds. 12 individual slots host the ammo which is gravity fed into the action w/ the assistance of a heavy, steel follower. When the slot is empty the drum is simply advanced to the next slot, until empty. The hand crank used for operation is located on the right side and is rotated clockwise to fire. Elevation adjustments can be made using a 22" handle at the rear of the receiver & it can be locked in position when desirable. 36" hardwood legs host the steel yoke. Front sight is a brass blade that coincides w/ an elevation adjustable rear blade sight. The sight radius of 30". Round barrels w/ the last 2.25" hexagon. Barrels retained w/ brass ring, 3" rear of muzzles. Circular brass data plate on top, rear of receiver engraved; "GATLING'S BATTERY GUN WOODSFIELD, OHIO, U.S.A. / 3 JUNE 2009 / MODEL 1878 / CALIBER 45-70 GOV. / MADE BY / VALLEY ENGRAVING LLC / and NEAL E. SMITH jr." Receiver engraved on right side; "mfd. by VALLEY ENGRAVING LLC, Woodfield, Ohio 43793 / Gatling Gun, Model 1878, caliber 45-70 government / serial number014-008. / distributed by Neal E. Smith jr.8205 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor, Ohio44060." Top of Broadwell drums engraved; "BROADWELL DRUM - CAPACITY 216 ROUNDS - CALIBER 45-70 GOV. - DATE OF MANUFACTURE 29 DEC. 2008 / GATLING GUN." MAGS: 3 Brass 216 rd. Broadwell Drums. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: owners manual & 5 custom wooden transport / storage crates for drums, gun, yoke & tripod. CONDITION: brass has correct staining as untreated brass would. T&E mechanism moves smooth & fluid as does the entire fire control mechanism. All aspects indicate little use, if any.
