CARBINE. Cal. 7.62x54. S# OB4330. All visible numbers match except on the left side of the buttstock. Bbl. 20 3/8". Import marked on right side of bbl. These carbines were made by shortening a standard Model 91/30 rifle to the configuration of a Model 1938 carbine. Research indicates this work was done in either the Soviet Union or Bulgaria. The tangent rear sight is easily identified because the graduations beyond 1,000 meters were removed. The post front sight with its protective hood was reinstalled on the shortened bbl. The handguard and forend of the hardwood stock set were also shortened, and the upper band relocated. Round receiver. Bbl. is marked over the chamber with the Izhevsk wreath. Dated "1943" with OB4330 and added "1891/59" plus an arrow in a diamond. The bolt has a straight handle. Cleaning rod is present. The buttstock has a two-piece construction with the toe being added. CONDITION: wood and metal retain a very high degree of arsenal rework finish with light wear and scattered handling marks. Forend has two inletted repairs on the right side between the grasping groove and the lower band. Good shiny bore with lightly worn lands. PROVENANCE: from the lifelong collection of Terrence McCarty. (24-443 /RW). CURIO. $200-300.
