Cal. 50. NSN. Bbl. 41" rifled heavy oct. with dovetailed brass blade front sight and dovetailed screw elevation adjustable shaped rear sight. "N MOLL" with wavy border eng in an insert brass panel. Joseph Golcher lock. Smooth straight grip walnut stock with brass furniture. Single trigger. The Moll family was a well known family of gunsmiths who were known to operate from 1764-1884. The only mention I could find of an N Moll was from an excerpt found in an ASAC article that referring to an "elusive" Nathan Moll of Hellertown, PA. Nathan Moll sponsored the son of John Moll III baptism May 13th, 1838. Another section of the article indicates that Nathan Moll was connected to the business and eventually moved west and left the business the family had run for generations. CONDITION: overall very good. The metal has a mottled gray patina. The stock has a large chip at the muzzle and behind the hammer. There is a crack running along the toeline. Nice looking rifle from a famous family of makers. (01-29130/ZAL). ANTIQUE. $500-900.
