Cal. 41 Short RF. S# 2078. Bbl. 2 1/2" w/ tear drop shape at muzzle & brass blade sight. Mfg. 1865-1870 as continuation of Moore's Patent Firearms Co. No. 1 mfg. 1860-1865; Model No. 1 & First used interchangeably. Moore's created first big bore derringer that was continued by National who sold rights to Colt in 1870. Colt continued it (w/ improvements) as First Model having hired prior National employees until discontinuing model in 1890. Approx. 6,000 mfg. being equally split between Moore's & National. Scarcer plated iron (common in brass) construction throughout w/ light scroll engraving plus checkering in grip area serving mainly as decoration. Breech face marked "T78" & rear of bbl. marked "T"; National markings on flat topped rib. Pivot point of bbl. has "knife edge" extractor. Groove in top of hammer spur serving as rear sight if one were to actually aim. CONDITION: especially fine appearing example w/ light handling marks throughout & areas on frame of mild porosity as if not fully polished. Tight action & generally good bore w/ sharp rifling plus very light pitting in grooves. (01-22338/NW). ANTIQUE. $1,250-1,750.
