Cal. 41 RF. S# 5739. Bbl. 2 1/2" Mfg. 1865-1870 as continuation of Moore's Company production of 1860-1865; total of 6,000 units equally divided by both companies. First large caliber derringer using metallic cartridge that was also all metal; silver plated with brass frame (very few steel framed). Button released barrel twists sideways to load; S# on barrel. Later production model with spur trigger bottom slanting away from grip. Just after 1870, Colt hired National workmen and continued the derringer with the Colt name having some design improvements. Company markings on top flat of barrel along with brass blade sight; patent marking on bottom. Nice decorative engraving (standard) throughout. CONDITION: good appearance with grey tone to barrel and areas of brass showing on frame. Tight, well fitted barrel to frame. Fair pitted bore with distinct rifling. (01-22153/NW). ANTIQUE. $500-750.
