This pair of Native American snowshoes likely originated with the Ojibwe tribe of the Quebec and Great Lakes area. The shoes measure approx. 44" long x 14" wide. They have finely and intricately woven rawhide centers with wooden frames and supports. There are tufts of wool at the top and bottom sides of the snowshoes. CONDITION: as expected, a few of the rawhide strands are broken or detached. Some of the wool tufts on the sides are worn away. Structurally, the snowshoes are excellent. PROVENANCE: from the renowned collection of quality sporting arms from Lewis Drake together with inventory of Lewis Drake Associates. (02-23616/BF). $400-600.
