J. G. ANSCHUTZ WITH SCOPE. Cal. 8.15 x 46R. S# 12320. This rifle has 26 1/4" tapered octagon barrel with front portion fluted. Matted top flat holds front claw scope base, one standing one folding rear sight and gold bead front. S# is on left side. Bottom of barrel is stamped with December 1937 German nitro proofs for 8.15 x 46R. A sling loop is on bottom of barrel. Case hardened rotating dropping block single shot action has right side wall lowered to ease loading of cartridges and is line border engraved. Opening lever with catch has two wood panels on knob. Makers mark "JGA" in oval is on left side. Rifle is fitted with double set triggers and tang safety. Pistol grip buttstock of European walnut measures 14" over ribbed horn buttplate and features Bavarian right hand cheekpiece, point pattern grip checkering and a sling loop on toeline. Matching schnabled forend has German silver oval on bottom engraved with the monogram "HW" and attaches to barrel with sidebolt through oval steel escutcheons. Rifle is mounted with Burris 4x Compact scope with duplex retical in claw rings, rear with windage adjustment. CONDITION: very fine. Metal retaining nearly all original finishes with high edge wear and silvering on top tang which has a dent at rear. Stocks retain over 90% original oil finish with a good scattering of marks, checkering is lightly worn. There is a repaired crack at bottom of left side panel. Bore is bright and shiny throughout. Action is tight. Set triggers work. Scope is fine, optically clear. (23-304/MGM). CURIO. $1,500-2,500.
